Sacramento,CA : : Man dies in rollover crash in Hesperia on Thursday, July 27, 2017

A man was killed in a rollover crash near a local elementary school here Thursday evening, authorities said.

Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, which occurred on Third Avenue just north of Sultana Avenue, close to Mesa Grande Elementary School, just before 8 p.m. Thursday, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials.

Hesperia Sheriff’s station Sgt. Doug Hubbard said a Honda only occupied by its driver was involved in the crash. The man was headed north on Third Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle just north of the intersection with Sultana Avenue.

“Multiple witnesses said the driver was headed north at a high rate of speed,” Hubbard said.

The driver was unable to regain control of the vehicle, Hubbard said, and it swerved onto the dirt shoulder where it hit a fire hydrant just north of the intersection. This caused the Honda to overturn several times until the driver was ejected.

Hubbard said several bystanders and officials attempted to render medical aid, but the man died from his injuries on scene. His name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin.
