A 23-year-old Montana man is charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence in a rollover crash that killed a passenger.
Gallatin County prosecutors allege Lucas Keith Johnson of Bozeman was intoxicated when he crashed his sport utility vehicle on a rural road north of Belgrade at about 12:10 a.m. Thursday, killing 22-year-old Morgan Lee Gaither of Indianapolis.
The Montana Highway Patrol says Gaither and another 22-year-old woman from Indianapolis were not wearing seat belts. Gaither was thrown from the SUV. A 22-year-old Bozeman man who was in the front seat was wearing a seat belt and not seriously injured.
Johnson made an initial court appearance Thursday where Justice of the Peace Robert Quinn set his bail at $75,000. He did not enter a plea. Defense attorney Diana Copeland had asked for bail to be set at $10,000.
