A 22-year-old was seriously injured in a rear-end crash on I-691 in Cheshire Tuesday night, state police said.
The crash happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. near Exit 3. A Ford Focus driven by Ibrahim Elmali, 22, of George Street was traveling east when it struck another eastbound car, a 2011 Nissan Sentra, in the rear, causing it to roll, according to a report.
Elmali was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury to be treated for injuries that troopers suspected were serious, police said.
The two people in the Nissan, Olga Madera, 67, of Bunker Avenue in Meriden, the driver, and passenger De Rodriguez Frias, 39, of Windsor Avenue in Meriden, were not injured, state police said.
The east lanes of the highway were shut down while troopers gathered evidence from the crash. The highway was reopened but then closed again at 9 a.m. Wednesday for troopers to do more work at the scene.
