Hutchinson, KS : Local man injured after car vs. bicycle hit-and-run crash on Monday, May 2, 2016

A Hutchinson man was taken to the hospital Monday after being struck on his bicycle by a vehicle that left the scene.

Jose Gutierrez, 31, of Hutchinson was turning onto Van Buren from Fifth Avenue when he hit Jerry Ybarra, 69, of Hutchinson, who was on a bicycle and then reportedly left the scene, Hutchinson Police Officer Lance Hirt said.

Ybarra was sent to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for a severe right-hand injury and facial lacerations.

He appeared to have been intoxicated, Hirt said, as he didn’t know what direction he was going or where he was at.

Gutierrez was issued a citation for leaving the scene of an injury accident, driving while suspended and turning to the wrong portion of the roadway, according to the HPD bulletin.
