Tallahassee, FL : Daytona Beach police chase ends in fatal crash, troopers say on Sunday, December 11th, 2016
One person is dead and two others were seriously injured after a police chase led to a crash in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident started early Sunday when Daytona Beach police received a call about several car burglaries in a parking garage, authorities said.
The caller gave police descriptions of the vehicle and suspects and when police arrived they found a vehicle matching that description, Daytona Beach police said.
They tried to pull over the vehicle, a Kia Forte, a little before 3:20 a.m. but instead the driver got on Interstate 4, Trooper Steven Montiero said.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office helped in the chase, sending a helicopter above to monitor the vehicle, Montiero said.
As the vehicle went under an overpass for Saxon Boulevard, the driver, who hasn't been identified, lost control and crashed into a steel sign pole, Montiero said.
