Racine County, WI : 62-year-old Illinois man who stopped to change a flat tire on Interstate 94 was struck and killed by a passing motorist on Sunday night September 7th 2014
A 62-year-old Illinois man who stopped to change a flat tire on Interstate 94 in Racine County was struck and killed by a passing motorist Sunday night, authorities said.
The body of Joseph Lo Piccolo was found in a ditch at 10:43 p.m. by a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper who stopped on I-94 near Sturtevant when he saw two vehicles parked on the side of the highway. The trooper began CPR on Lo Piccolo, but the motorist could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The State Patrol said the motorist who struck Lo Piccolo — a 25-year-old Milwaukee man driving a 2003 Jaguar — stopped at the scene. Authorities believe Lo Piccolo pulled his 2009 Mazda over on the side of the interstate because of a flat tire.
The two right lanes of westbound I-94 were shut down for around two hours late Sunday.
