Clarendon, VT : Woman killed in a car crash on Route 7 on Monday, November 21, 2016
A 21-year-old local woman was killed in a car crash Monday, according to Vermont State Police.
Police said Susan Allard of Clarendon was pronounced dead upon arrival at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Police said Allard was found motionless in her 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe shortly before 1 p.m. in the southbound lane of Route 7B, at the intersection with Route 7.
Police described the intersection as being controlled by stop signs requiring vehicles coming from Route 7B to yield to traffic on Route 7. Police said Allard pulled onto Route 7 and into the path of a 2013 International truck driven by Terry Gordon, 41, of Sumter, South Carolina.
The speed limit on that section of Route 7 is 55 mph. According to police, weather at the time consisted of light snow flurries and the road’s condition was wet.
Police said Gordon was unable to avoid the collision, hitting the right side of Allard’s Hyundai.
Police said Gordon was unhurt. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to police.
Troopers were assisted on scene by the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department, Regional Ambulance, and the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
Route 7 was closed at the intersection for more than an hour, with motorists advised to find alternative routes.
