Newport News, VA : 12 taken to hospital after bus crash in Newport News on Saturday, 26th January 2019

A crash between a car and a Hampton Roads Transit bus on Saturday morning in Newport News sent a dozen people to the hospital, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the 12000 block of Jefferson Avenue, near the intersection with Bell King Road and south of Oyster Point Road, around 8:50 a.m. According to a news release from police spokeswoman Kelly King, the bus was picking up passengers when a dark-colored Chrysler collided with it.

Ten of the passengers and the driver were evaluated at the hospital, King said. None had serious injuries.

However, the man who police say was driving the car was taken to the hospital with injuries considered life-threatening. King said that the department’s crash team was still investigating later on Saturday morning.
