Police say a woman is dead after a vehicle struck her as she was crossing a Springfield street.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that 43-year-old Michelle McCown, of Springfield, was struck Tuesday as she crossed the street with another woman. Police said in a news release that McCown was transported to a hospital, where she was

pronounced dead.

Police say the 70-year-old driver is cooperating, and there is no indication he was intoxicated.
