CHARLOTTE, NC : Man identified in police chase, crash in north Charlotte on Tuesday, December 13th 2016
Charlotte, North Carolina
A police chase involving a suspected carjacker came to a crashing conclusion in north Charlotte Tuesday.
The situation started on Caronia Street, in west Charlotte, when a man was reportedly carjacked, and ended in the Brightwalk neighborhood.
Lamariee Harvell, 20, was arrested and the stolen vehicle was smashed.
WBTV spoke to the owner of the BMW, who said the car isn’t even what he’s angry about.
“I’m just stung," said Joe Hood, the man who was carjacked. "Why are you putting a gun to my face? Taking my car, you're robbing me.”
Hood said he was just dropping off food for his family when two armed men approached.
“Two guys had pulled two guns out on me - .38's - telling me to give it up," Hood said. "I didn’t have no other choice because I done been shot before.”
It wasn’t long before Hood learned his car had wrecked in the chase on Double Oaks Road. But he said the car was the least of his worries.
“It ain’t about no car," he said. "I get cars like I change my drawers... it’s about respect”
Brightwalk neighbors said they could hear the BMW speeding down the road and skidding onto the curb, crashing in front of a home.
“I was upstairs in my office and I heard a really loud thud," said Meghan Reno. "You could see the blue lights reflecting off the windows.”
Reno and several other neighbors went out to look at the twisted metal on the gold BMW. Little did they know it was stolen just hours earlier.
“It stinks that someone’s car got stolen and wrecked, but I’m glad that he got caught,” Reno said.
Hood said he just wants others to take note and not try the same thing.
“People need to put them guns down. Think about life. It’s not about how hard or bad you are. Just put the guns down.”
