A 16-year-old girl who was pushing a 1-year-old in a stroller Tuesday night in Brevard County was struck and killed by a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 7:50 p.m. near the intersection of Curtis Boulevard and Fay Boulevard in Port St. John.

The girl, whose identity hasn't been released, was pushing a 1-year-old girl in a stroller in the northbound lane of Curtis Boulevard. The two were walking with the girl's boyfriend, 19-year-old Dale Lambert.

A 42-year-old driver told Florida Highway Patrol troopers that she didn't see the three in the roadway. The front of the Nissan Altima struck the babysitter, the 19-month-old and the boyfriend.

All three were transported to area hospitals.

The 16-year-old girl died at the hospital.

Lambert was listed in serious condition at Parrish Medical Center. The child, identified as Lilth Elis, was in serious condition at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed, troopers said.

Residents in the area said the deadly crash is a wakeup call to make the area safer for pedestrians.

"It's very dark and it's not particularly safe," said Steve Biel, who lives in the area. "There are no sidewalks on it."
