Butte, MT : 61-year-old man driving himself to hospital dies in crash on Wednesday, September 21, 2016
A 61-year-old Butte man has died after possibly suffering a heart attack and crashing into a parked travel trailer off Continental Drive on Wednesday, police said.
James (Nate) Aylward was en route to St. James Healthcare related to a medical issue, said Butte-Silver Bow County Coroner Lee LaBreche.
Aylward was northbound in a white 2013 Buick on Continental Drive and nearly hit an oncoming vehicle about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Undersheriff George Skuletich.
The Buick traveled through an empty grass lot south of the McQueen Athletic Club, 3250 Hecla St., and crashed into a travel trailer. Aylward was found slumped over the wheel, the undersheriff said.
Police broke a rear window to gain entry to the vehicle. CPR was administered before Aylward was transported to St. James, where he was pronounced dead.
LaBreche said Aylward had a history of medical issues.
