Ypsilanti, MI : Trenton woman killed in head-on crash on Allen Road on Thursday, November 10, 2016

Police have released the name of a Trenton woman who was killed in a head-on crash Nov. 10.

Janice Collinson, 61, died at about 8:30 p.m. on Allen Road near Trentwood in the collision.

Police said a 31-year-old Brownstown Township man headed north in a 2011 Mercury Mariner crossed the center line, hitting Collinson’s 2012 Ford Focus and another vehicle headed south.

She died at the scene.

Sgt. Christopher Goolsby said Monday that the last update he was given on the driver of the Mariner was that he was in critical, but stable condition at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

According to Goolsby, he was coming from a fast food restaurant.

A 28-year-old Trenton woman was driving the other car involved in the crash.

Her infant son, along with a 27-year-old friend from Wyandotte, were not injured.

Goolsby said there are two witnesses to the crash, but police still are looking for anyone who has information or saw something.

Right now, police have no clear-cut reason why the man to crossed over into oncoming traffic.

According to Goolsby, there was nothing in the vehicle to indicate alcohol played a factor in the crash.

“I don’t have anything that points me in any direction,” Goolsby said.

He is preparing to download data from both vehicles that might contain a “black box” or data recorder.

That information might be able to tell police such things as the speed of the vehicles and if the brakes were applied within a window of about 5 seconds from impact.

Goolsby said the driver of the Mariner had severe enough injuries that he doesn’t anticipate he will be released from the hospital anytime soon.
