Hagerstown, MD : SUV crashes into stoop on N. Locust Street on Saturday night, October 22, 2016
Residents of 113 N. Locust St. in Hagerstown were shaken Saturday night when a sport-utility vehicle crashed into the brick walls surrounding their front stoop.
No one was injured in the crash.
"It sounded like a bomb went off," said Eugene Ambush, who said he was in the upstairs of the house when the crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m.
"I didn't expect this," said his fiance, Mary Johnson, who was standing in the front room just feet from the crash. "I'm OK. I'm just a little shook up, that's all."
Driver Darek McMahon, 25, of no fixed address said he was driving his 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe north on North Locust Street when it suddenly went out of control. He believes he was unable to steer because the truck's left upper-ball joint broke.
"It just started bobbing back and forth," he said. "I couldn't ... stop it."
The SUV came to rest on its passenger side with the front against the debris from the shattered walls.
The street was closed until about 7:30 p.m., when a rollback truck righted the vehicle and took it away.
