Dixon,IL : Dixon drivers seriously injured in Route 2 crash on June, Wednesday 21th 2017
A Dixon woman who pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning to using a stolen debit card is facing DUI and other charges after police say she caused a crash 2 hours later that sent her and the other driver to the hospital with "incapacitating injuries."
Susan E. Emmole, 48, was eastbound at a high rate of speed in a Nissan Maxima, just east of Plock Road, around 11:30 a.m., when she ran into the back of a Mini Cooper driven by Steven M. Moreno, 62, also of Dixon, sending both vehicles rolling, State Police said in a news release.
Emmole, who was thrown from her car, was flown to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where she was listed in critical condition Wednesday, while Moreno was taken to KSB Hospital in Dixon. KSB does not provide patient conditions.
Emmole is charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, illegal transportation of alcohol and no seat belt.
ISP's traffic crash reconstruction unit is investigating, and more charges may be pending, the release said.
Emmole has a long history of convictions for petty crimes and traffic violations, and a few pending cases.
She was charged May 4 with using a stolen debit card, which carries 1 to 3 years in prison; she pleaded not guilty at a 9 a.m. hearing, Lee County Court records show. Her next hearing is July 27.
She also was charged June 8 in Whiteside County with illegal use of an electronic device; that case has not yet been resolved.
A host of traffic violations that includes speeding, failure to reduce speed, failure to yield, driving on a suspended license and having no insurance date back to 1998 in Lee County. She also has two speeding convictions in Ogle County, in 1996 and 2011
In July 2012, she was sentenced to 2 years of court supervision and ordered to pay more than $2,000 in restitution for spray-painting derogatory words on a Dixon woman's home four times in July 2010. She also spray-painted similar words on the Heritage Square Retirement Home building and Oliver’s Food Pride, and was caught in the act of spray-painting Washington Elementary School that same month.
