A 10-year-old girl has died from injuries suffered in a traffic crash in Dane County involving three people from the Milwaukee area, the Wisconsin State Patrol reported Wednesday.
The girl was among four occupants of a 2000 Honda Civic that was struck by a pickup truck about 10 a.m., Monday on southbound I-39 at mile marker 128 near DeForest, according to a news release from the state patrol.
According to the release, the Honda, driven by a 16-year-old girl from South Milwaukee, was stopped on the median shoulder because of possible mechanical problems.
When the driver pulled back into traffic the car was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Ashley N. Imme, 22, of New Berlin, who was unable to avoid the Honda because of traffic blocking her view.
The Honda then entered the median ditch and rolled over before landing on its tires, while the truck ended up on the median shoulder.
The girl was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The driver of the Honda and two other passengers, Emilio Christopher Fregosa, 19, of Wauwatosa and Teresa M. Greengrass, 34, of Black River Falls, suffered injuries that are not life-threatening and none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts.
Imme, the driver of the Silverado, was not injured and was wearing a seat belt, according to the release.
The crash remained under investigation Wednesday, according to the release.
