KAHULUI, HI : 64-year-old motorcyclist dies after crash in Haiku on Monday, December, 11th 2017
A 64-year-old motorcyclist who crashed into a guard rail in Haiku Monday night died at the scene, according to Maui police.
The man was identified as Dean Line Sr. of Kahului.
At around 6:10 p.m., investigators say Line was riding a 2017 black Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling north on West Kuiaha Road. After passing Nahe Road, he drifted into the right shoulder and crashed into a guard rail.
Line was thrown from his bike and struck the guard rail. Police say he was not wearing a helmet.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
This is Maui County's 17th traffic fatality this year compared with 23 at the same time last year.
