Ashland County, OH : Greenwich man killed in accident at 479 U.S. 250 in Ruggles Township on Friday night, August 12, 2016
A 21-year-old Greenwich man died Friday night after a crash involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle on private property, according to the Ashland County Sheriff's Office.
The crash took place on a driveway at 479 U.S. 250 in Ruggles Township, according to a story in the Mansfield News Journal. The sheriff's office responded to the scene at 6:44 p.m.
Dakota Howard, of 3413 Omega Road, was injured when he lost control of a motorcycle and was run over by the rear wheel of a truck driving at his side, Chief Deputy Carl Richert said.
The driver of the pickup was Jeremy White, of 479 U.S. 250.
Richert said the two friends had loaded some wood in the truck for a campfire with friends later that night. Howard decided to pass the truck on the driver's side and slid his motorcycle underneath the truck, Richert said. The driver was not aware at first he had hit someone, he said.
Ashland Fire Department took Howard to University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
No charges will be filed, Richert said.
"It was just a total accident," Richert said.
