VALDOSTA, GA : Clinch woman dies in Lowndes wreck on Monday, January, 15th 2018
A 34-year-old Clinch County woman died Monday in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 94 at Boring Pond Road, according to a report by Georgia State Patrol Post 31.
Kimberly Ann Poythress, 34, of Homerville was pronounced dead by the Lowndes County Coroner Austin Fiveash, according to the GSP report.
At 7:55 a.m. Monday, she was driving a white Dodge Ram south on Boring Pond Road; Henry Harris, 58, of Jennings, Fla., was traveling west on Highway 94, according to the GSP.
"The Dodge failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Boring Pond Road and Ga. 94," said GSP Cpl. Chris Kelch, who investigated the incident. "The log truck struck the driver’s side of the Dodge causing the Dodge to rotate clockwise and travel off the south shoulder of the roadway into a ditch coming to a final rest facing west. The log truck overturned onto its driver’s side spilling the loaded logs onto the highway. The log truck traveled into the south ditch where it then engulfed in fire."
Robinson was not seriously injured; he escaped his vehicle by crawling out the back window, Kelch said.
Fire burned through power and cable lines above the vehicles.
"Troopers do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be a contributing factor in this collision," according to the GSP, but evidence has been sent for toxicology reports. No charges are expected to be filed as a result of the collision.
The road was closed until shortly after noon to clear the logs.
The crash marks the third reported fatal traffic incident since the start of the new year in Lowndes County.
