Orlando, FL : Woman dies, man critical after crash on Boggy Creek Road in Orange County early Monday, July 4, 2016
A female passenger died and man is in critical condition after an early Monday crash in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol stated in a news release.
The male driver and female passenger have not been identified, but troopers stated that at about 1:20 a.m., the pair were in a 2005 Toyota Prius traveling westbound on J. Lawson Boulevard when the car approached an intersection at Boggy Creek Road with a flashing red light.
Matthew Helmbold, 26, of Orlando was driving his 1996 Chevy pickup truck on southbound Boggy Creek Road when he came to the intersection to a flashing yellow light.
According to FHP, the two vehicles both entered the intersection at the same time, with the pickup truck’s front striking the right side of the Prius.
The driver of the Prius was wearing his seat belt was in critical condition at Osceola Regional Medical Center, FHP said. Troopers haven't determined whether the passenger was wearing her seat belt.
Helmbold was wearing his seat belt and suffered minor injuries, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation, but the FHP stated that alcohol was not involved.
