Smithfield, R.I : Vehicle loses control, crashes, on Rte. 295 Saturday morning on September 6, 2014
A woman sustained minor injuries late Saturday morning when she lost control of a sedan on Route 295 south and veered into the pillars of the overpass that carries Route 44 traffic over the highway, the state police said.
The woman was traveling south when she tried to move from the center lane to the right lane for slower traffic with the goal of exiting the highway, the police said.
It appears that the side of the sedan she was driving made contact with a garbage truck traveling in the neighboring lane, lost control and then veered into the highway’s median and struck the cement uprights that support the overpass, the police said.
The sedan also made contact with steel drainage pipes that are part of the structure and then rolled over, the police said.
The woman sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, the police said.
