Hudson, IA : Phat Tai Tran, 68, dead in semi-minivan crash on Highway 63 south of Hudson on Monday, April 4, 2016

Authorities said they had received complaints about a minivan’s driving moments before it crashed into a semi south of Hudson on Monday.

The van driver was declared dead when he arrived at the hospital, according to the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office.

The identity of the van’s driver hasn’t been released pending notification of relatives.

Another motorist had called to report a van that was heading north on U.S. Highway 63 speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. A short time later, about 11:15 a.m., deputies were sent to the crash on Highway 63 just south of the Highway 175 intersection.

Details weren’t available, but the semi — driven by Thomas Bronson, 57, of Coral, Mich. — was headed south. The collision appears to have taken place in the southbound lane.

Crews from Hudson fire department and ambulance service treated the van driver, and he was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

The Air Care helicopter was sent to the scene but wasn’t used to transport any patients. Other agencies involved included Hudson police, the Iowa State Patrol and Iowa DOT Enforcement.
