Nashville, TN : One person was dead in a fiery crash on Interstate 40 West in downtown Nashville on Friday October 24th 2014
One person was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 40 West in downtown Nashville Friday.
The man has been tentatively identified as an 18-year-old from Chapmansboro, Tennessee. Positive identification is pending confirmation by the medical examiner.
The multiple-vehicle crash was reported around 5:45 p.m. at mile marker 209, near Broadway.
Police said they believe the victim's car, a 1988 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight sedan, was broken down in a lane of traffic before it was hit by the tractor trailer and caught on fire.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 49-year-old Kevin Davenport of Lebanon, Indiana, was uninjured. It appears he attempted to stop, but was not able to avoid the collision.
The roadway was closed for several hours, but it reopened around Midnight.
The investigation is ongoing, though the preliminary contributing factor to the accident is the stopped vehicle in the lane of traffic.
There is no indication of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.
