Slidell, LA : 30-year-old Preston Marchant killed in a single-car crash near U.S. Highway 190 on Sunday night, January 17, 2016
A 30-year-old Slidell man was killed Sunday night (Jan. 17) in a single-car accident on the north shore, the Louisiana State Police reported.
State police spokesman Trooper Dustin Dwight said the victim was identified as Preston Blake Marchant. Dwight said state police determined that Marchant was driving a 2006 Toyota Scion eastbound on US Highway 90 near US Highway 190 around 10:30 p.m. when, for reasons still under investigation, his car veered off the right side of the roadway and crashed into a tree.
Marchant, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and sustained severe injuries, police said. He was transported to Ochsner Medical Center North Shore, where authorities said he was pronounced dead.
Dwight said investigators "do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in the crash," but that blood samples were being sent to the state police crime lab for analysis, as is standard procedure in the agency's fatal crash investigations.
