Boca Raton, FL : Driver, 28, killed in pre-dawn I-95 crash with tractor trailer on Wednesday, December 7, 2016
A 28-year-old man died in a pre-dawn crash Wednesday when a tractor trailer slammed into his car while merging onto Interstate 95 from the shoulder in Boca Raton, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Jeffrey Scott Kaiser, of Fort Lauderdale, was stopped on the right shoulder around 4:30 a.m. before he drove his Nissan Sentra into the semi truck's path along the northbound lanes of I-95 near Glades Road, the agency said.
The tractor trailer struck the left side of the white Nissan, which sent the car spinning "off into the median and struck the concrete barrier wall," said Sgt. John Baker.
The truck's driver, Trevor Roy Thompson, told investigators he noticed the Nissan's brake lights and then a turn signal before the car merged into the path of the truck, Baker said.
Thompson, 70, of Margate, was not injured.
Three northbound lanes of I-95 approaching Glades Road were closed throughout much of the morning commute.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
