JOHNSON COUNTY, KS : 17-year-old Kansas boy killed while trying to help victims of crash on interstate on Saturday, 27th July 2024

A 17-year-old boy was killed Saturday morning while trying to help victims in a crash on I-35.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash occurred just before 2 a.m. Saturday when a Jeep Liberty was southbound on I-35 when it rear-ended a second vehicle, a Chevrolet Equinox, that was stalled in the first lane from a previous accident.

After the impact, the Jeep drifted and struck a pedestrian, 17-year-old Benjamin Van Buskirk of Olathe, who ran across lanes of traffic to offer assistance in the crash.
