ELLENSBURG, WA : Idaho girl injured in Interstate 82 crash on Monday, 17th October 2016
Speed was a factor in an Interstate 82 collision between a sports utility vehicle and a semitrailer that left a 10-year-old Idaho girl injured Monday, the Washington State Patrol reported.
James D. Hansen, 34, of Middleton, Idaho, was driving south on I-82 about 9 miles south of Ellensburg when he changed lanes shortly before 12:50 p.m., according to a State Patrol news release. Hansen’s 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe struck the second of two flatbed trailers pulled by a 2001 Peterbilt tractor, the State Patrol said.
The Tahoe came to rest blocking the entrance to the viewpoint/rest area, the release said. Juliauna G. Hansen, 10, a passenger in the SUV, was taken to KVH Hospital in Ellensburg, before being transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where her condition was not immediately available.
Troopers said Hansen and the truck’s driver, Hector O. Roman, 44, of Yakima, were wearing seat belts, as were the three children in the SUV. Intoxicants were not a factor in the accident, which troopers attributed to excessive speed.
