BLUFORD, IL : Man injured in crash on Monday, September 18th 2017

A man was injured Monday after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his lawnmower.

At 7:50 p.m. Monday, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received a report that a man flipped a riding lawnmower and was lying on the ground at Markham City Road and East Illinois Highway 15 in Bluford.

Jefferson County Sheriff Travis Allen said the man who reported the incident was later identified as Joseph Welch, 27, of Mt. Vernon. Following the incident, Welch was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and obstructing justice.

According to the accident report, the man on the lawnmower was traveling south. Welch was traveling the same direction in his vehicle, and allegedly hit the rear end of the lawnmower causing it to slide into a ditch.

No information was available on injuries sustained by the man riding the lawnmower.

The sheriff's office is still investigating the incident.
