Orlando, FL : One person was seriously injured in a crash at Waterford Lakes Parkway On Tuesday, August 15th, 2016
A 20-year-old Jupiter man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a crash sent another vehicle into a retention pond near Waterford Lakes Town Center overnight.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the female driver of a Mazda was stopped at a red light at the intersection of North Alafaya Trail and Waterford Lakes Parkway around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Troopers said Alexander
Chiaravalle, who was driving a Kia, failed to slow down and rear-ended the Mazda, pushing it into the pond.
First responders helped extricate the woman from the vehicle after it had become partially submerged. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Authorities said Chiaravalle, who refused to give a breath sample, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and also charged with careless driving.
The pond is just down the street from where a deadly crash eventually prompted Chloe's Law, which calls for guard rails around certain bodies of water.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed that bill into law in April.
