Martinsville,VA : Bedford teenager dies, three injured in Campbell County wreck on April, Tuesday 3rd 2018

A 16-year-old Bedford County girl died Tuesday after being ejected from a vehicle in Campbell County, state police said.

The single-vehicle crash happened at about 1:15 p.m. on Wards Road, about five miles south of Lynchburg, after a Jeep Wrangler ran off the left side of the highway and into a median, according to a Virginia State Police news release.

The Jeep struck a culvert and overturned at least three times, ejecting all four of the occupants from the car’s soft-top, police said. Only one of the passengers was wearing a seat belt.

The passengers were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, where the girl died, police said.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Evington, was seriously injured in the crash. An 18-year-old woman and 16-year-old girl suffered injuries that are not life threatening.

Police have not identified the individuals involved in the wreck.

The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending, police said.
