Las Vegas, NV :Stolen SUV prompts high-speed chase around Las Vegas Valley on Tuesday, July 7th 2015
The driver of an SUV that had been reported stolen led Nevada Highway Patrol troopers from the central Las Vegas Valley to Boulder City and back Tuesday afternoon in a 45-minute high-speed chase.The man was later taken into custody.Troopers began following the sport utility vehicle at 2:09 p.m. on southbound U.S. Highway 95 at Decatur Boulevard, Trooper Loy Hixson said. About 22 miles later, just passed Railroad Pass, the man flipped around and headed back north on U.S. 95.The vehicle ran over a spike strip troopers had put down near the Boulder Highway exit and finally got off the freeway at Charleston Boulevard. The vehicle came to a stop and the driver was taken into custody about 2:50 p.m. near Charleston and Lamb boulevards, Hixson said.Two NHP vehicles were damaged during the chase, Hixson said, but no troopers were injured.A Las Vegas Police K-9 vehicle also was damaged, according to a tweet from the department’s social media account.Southbound Lamb was shut down for the investigation, according to police.Eastbound Charleston was closed at Lamb until about 6 p.m., the Regional Transportation Commission said.
