Grand Junction, CO : Two pedestrians were seriously hurt on Monday, October, 30th 2017
Two pedestrians were seriously hurt when they were struck by vehicles in at least two separate incidents Monday.
The first accident happened just before 8 a.m. when a 7-year-old boy was hit while walking to Pear Park Elementary School, Grand Junction police spokeswoman Heidi Davidson said.
A man driving a Mini Cooper west on Canyonland Drive was stopped at a stop sign, preparing to turn north onto 30 3/4 Road, when a couple of kids crossed in front of him. The man began to turn and failed to see the 7-year-old, who was on a skateboard, and hit him with his car, Davidson said.
The boy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, although Davidson said she didn’t know the extent of them. The boy was not wearing a helmet.
In the second accident, a woman driving a Dodge Ram northbound on Fifth Street turned westbound onto Grand Avenue and hit another woman walking in the crosswalk south across Grand around 11:30 a.m.
The pedestrian was initially trapped under the truck, and initial reports suggested she suffered facial injuries. Davidson said she sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Davidson said nobody had been cited yet in the accident, though she anticipated the driver of the truck would be issued a summons.
Police didn’t release the names of anybody involved in either accident.
