Jacksonville Police and Fire Rescue responded to the scene of a crash that involved two kids on the Westside.
The crash happened near the intersection of Seaboard Avenue and Penny Lane Tuesday around 7:30 a.m.
The children were walking to their bus stop, which is across the street from their home, when an unidentified driver in Acura Integra hit them, said Washington. A 9-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl were injured in the crash, according to Donald Washington with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The boy and girl were taken to UF Health Jacksonville for treatment. The boy had non-life-threatening injuries, and is expected to be OK. The girl is has life-threatening injuries, said Washington.
The kids walk to the bus stop every day and did not look left before stepping into the road, said Washington.
Corrinne Lepper lives nearby and says she and her roommate woke up a woman's screams.
"He took off running out the front door to see what the screaming was about, and about 10 minutes later he came back and said two kids got hit by a car and one wasn't doing too good," said Leeper.
JSO says speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash. The driver has not been cited at this time.
