Crosby Township, OH : Two drivers, including on-duty Colerain police officer injured after a head-on crash in Hamilton County on Sunday night, December 13, 2015

Two drivers, including an on-duty Colerain police officer, were hospitalized after a head-on crash in Crosby Township Sunday night, according to Hamilton County deputies.

The crash occurred at about 5:45 p.m. in the 8200 block of New Haven Road. The officer was driving west when the eastbound Ford Fusion driven by 52-year-old Richard Douglas Taylor of Fairfield crossed the center line and they colided, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil said.

Prescription drugs were believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to Neil.

The cars “were pretty messed up,” Colerain Officer Jim Love said. The air bags deployed, and fortunately all the safety features on both cars seem to have worked, he said.

Taylor was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center via Air Care helicopter. He had not been wearing a seatbelt. The police officer was driven to a hospital by another officer in a squad car.

Neither man suffered life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

The officer's identity was not immediately released.

The crash remained under investigation late Sunday.
