WALHALLA, SC : A fatal crash in Oconee County on Saturday, September 23rd 2017
The coroner responded to the scene of a fatal crash in Oconee County on Saturday.
According to SC Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on SC 11 at Austin Edwards Road around 6:10 p.m. Coroner Karl Addis said the incident happened near Walhalla High School.
Injuries were initially reported, but the coroner later confirmed three fatalities due to the crash, which was a 2-vehicle head-on collision.
Addis said two of the victims were from North Carolina, and one was from Georgia.
According to troopers, the driver of a 2010 Toyota was traveling north along SC 11 as the driver of a 2015 Chevy pickup truck was traveling south along the same road. The Chevy then crossed the center line, and a head-on collision occurred involving the two vehicles.
SC Highway Patrol said the driver of the Toyota succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Two other passengers were in the Toyota during the crash, per troopers. One of the passengers was killed, and the other passenger was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital. The extent of the victim's injuries are unknown.
The driver of the Chevy pickup truck was also killed in the collision.
The coroner identified the driver in the Toyota as Christopher Gene Shackelford, 52. The passenger in the vehicle who was killed in the collision was identified as his 20-year-old daughter Kelci Shackelford. The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as Wayne R. Olliff, 51.
All three victims died from multiple blunt force injuries, the coroner said They were all wearing seat belts.
Christopher Shackelford's wife is the victim who was transported to the hospital.
