DODGE CITY, KS : Dodge City woman killed in weekend crash on Saturday, 25th January, 2020

A Dodge City woman was killed early Saturday morning when she failed to yield at a highway intersection on the west edge of Dodge City.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Vanessa Guzman, 26, was northbound on Matt Down Lane in a 2016 Hyundai Accent just before 5 a.m. when she pulled into the path of a 2018 Ford Explorer that was westbound on Wyatt Earp Boulevard, which is also U.S. 50.

After impact, Guzman’s vehicle was pushed into a metal guardrail and then overturned, throwing Guzman from the vehicle.

Both Guzman and the other driver, Shane Harris, 31, of Dodge City, were transported to Western Plains Medical Complex, where Guzman was pronounced dead, and Harris was treated for minor injuries and released.

Harris was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported, but Guzman was not.
