Lafayette ,CA : Teens injured in crash on Sunday night ,July 12th 2015
A car crash left a 17-year-old passenger with major injuries late Sunday, authorities said.
Just after 8:50 p.m., officers got a call that a car had crashed on Bear Creek Road just south of Happy Valley Road, California Highway Patrol Officer John Fransen said.
Arriving at the scene, officers found a gray Chrysler Sebring whose driver had failed to negotiate a gradual left turn. After losing control, the car careened through a culvert and slammed against a tree, snapping it off at its base. The car came to rest on its wheels in the roadway.
Though everyone inside was wearing restraints, the 17-year-old in the car's back seat suffered a major injury to her head and other internal injuries.
The driver, an 18-year-old from Lafayette, complained of pain to her hip. The front-seat passenger, 18, told police he suffered no injuries.
Emergency crews took the driver and injured passenger to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. No updates were available on their conditions Monday afternoon.
Investigators found no immediate sign of alcohol as a factor, Officer Fransen said.
