WALDWICK, NJ : Police officer of New Jersey killed in crash with Tractor-Trailer on early Thursday morning July 17th 2014

Authorities say a northern New Jersey police officer has died after a tractor-trailer veered off the road and rear-ended his unmarked cruiser.

Waldwick Police Officer Christopher Goodell was 32 years old.

Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli says Goodell was operating radar and looking for speeders on Route 17 when the tractor-trailer veered onto the shoulder and struck his unmarked police car, pushing it into a retaining wall just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Goodell was a five-year veteran of the department.

The prosecutor says the truck driver wasn't injured. No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation.

Police Chief Mark Messner says Goodell was a Marine Corps veteran and a proactive officer. He's survived by his family and a fiancee.
