A 72-year-old woman has died after being trapped under a car that careened into a senior care facility on Tuesday.
Police said an 88-year-old woman was at the wheel of the car. The crash occurred just before 11 a.m. in the 10700 block of 38th Avenue Northeast.
Eden Embaye, owner of Eden's Villa senior living community in Lake City, said a resident at the facility was waiting outside when a silver Mercedes sped passed her, and punched a hole through the front of the home.
According to the Seattle Fire Department, the car hit a resident sitting in a reclining chair, trapping her under the vehicle. The woman died before medics could save her.
The driver of the Mercedes was trapped in her car for about 30 minutes. Firefighters managed to free her, and she walked away in stable condition.
Police said the driver didn't show any signs of impairment but added that the investigation is continuing.
Embaye said she had five people under her care at Eden's Villa.
The remaining residents have been taken to a nearby care facility until officials give word they can re-enter the home.
