Gulfport, MS : Two people dead after a six-vehicle accident in Gulfport on Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Two people are dead after a six-vehicle accident in Gulfport.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Master Sgt. Benjamin Seibert tells multiple news outlets that three other people were transported to a hospital for treatment. One of those victims had what he described as life-threatening injuries.

The wreck happened Wednesday near the intersection of U.S. 49 and Highway 53.

Seibert says crews have cleared the wreckage and U.S. 49 has reopened.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
