COOS BAY, OR : A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 101 on Wednesday, December, 20th 2017
A 25-year-old North Bend woman lost her life yesterday in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 101.
According to a press release from Oregon State Police, at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, OSP troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash near milepost 252, about 10 miles north of Bandon and just north of West Beaver Hill Road.
The preliminary investigation has determined that a 2016 Toyota Scion was southbound on Highway 101 and lost control during a hail storm, traveling into the oncoming lane and colliding with a northbound 2010 Jeep Liberty.
The operator of the Scion was Vanessa Goodwin, 25, from North Bend. The operator of the Jeep was 70-year old Everett Harty from Winston. Harty and his passenger, 65-year-old Jeanette Harty were transported to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay with non-life threatening injuries.
Goodwin died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.
The Oregon State Police was assisted by Bandon Police Department, North Bend Police Department, Coos County Sheriff's Office, Millington Fire, Green Acres Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The weather (hail storm) and speed are being considered as contributing factors for the crash.
