Ramseur, N.C : Two killed in three-vehicle accident on N.C. 22 south of Ramseur on Sunday afternoon, February 5, 2017

Two drivers were killed Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision between two cars on N.C. 22 about 8 miles south of Ramseur, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Christopher Spinks, 26, of Seagrove and Walter Tucker II, 51, of Bennett died in the accident that occurred just before 6:30 p.m. near Log Cabin Road.

There were three vehicles involved, and the road was blocked for several hours. According to a report by Trooper K.R. Burroughs, Spinks was southbound on N.C. 22 in a 1999 Mercury passenger car; Gregory Dunn, 49, of Robbins was driving behind Spinks in a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Burroughs reported that Dunn passed Spinks’ vehicle because it was traveling slow and did not have any lights on. Spinks accelerated and his car struck the back of the truck. Then Spinks attempted to pass the pickup and his car struck an oncoming 2000 Dodge car, driven by Tucker, head-on in the northbound lane. Melissa Tucker, 46, of Bennett was a front-seat passenger in the northbound car.

Dunn was taken to Randolph Health in Asheboro with minor injuries; Melissa Tucker was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
