West Bend, WI : Driver accused of being under influence of drugs in West Bend crash Monday evening on July 14, 2014

A 54-year-old Milwaukee resident was hospitalized and faces charges after being involved in a car crash Monday evening in West Bend in which he allegedly was under the influence of drugs.

The crash was reported to the West Bend Police Department just after 5 p.m. The vehicle struck a utility pole in the 700 block of S. Main St., forcing authorities to close the road for several hours.

The driver, John Kunde, was flown by helicopter to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. He remained hospitalized Tuesday, police said, though he is expected to survive. No one else was injured in the crash.

Kunde was referred to the Washington County District Attorney's Office on a possible charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant or drugs.
