Lompoc, CA : California firefighter killed in car crash on way to fire on Wednesday September 21 2016

A veteran California firefighter was killed and a second firefighter injured early Wednesday as the two were hauling water to fight the fire at Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The firefighters were driving a water tender when the truck hit a curb in a roundabout and rolled in foggy morning conditions about 6:20 a.m. said Capt. Mike Lindbery, spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department.

The so-called Canyon Fire has burned 12,353-acres as of Wednesday afternoon and is 50 percent contained.

Fire engineer Ryan Osler, 38, and 18-year-veteran of the fire department and the passenger in the truck has been identified as the fire fighter who was killed in the crash. The survivor , who was able to pull himself from the car, has not been identified.

Osler is survived by his wife, Jennifer, daughter Amanda, and son Brandon.
