KPD officer dies in Sevier County motorcycle crash
It was an emotional day in downtown Knoxville, as a well-liked police officer was killed in an off-duty motorcycle accident was laid to rest.
In addition to his family and friends, law enforcement officers and other emergency workers joined a procession from the funeral home to Office David Munson's final resting place in Seymour.The procession wound through downtown Knoxville, where employees of the City County Building who couldn't attend the services came outside to pay their respects.The Knoxville Fire Department lifted an American flag from a ladder truck.At the cemetery, Munson received full burial honors, complete with taps, a 21-gun salute, and a helicopter fly-over.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office and Sevier County Sheriff's Office helped direct traffic and road closures for the procession.Previous storyFuneral services have been set for a Knoxville Police officer who was killed in an off-duty motorcycle accident.Officer David Munson was killed Monday evening. His funeral is scheduled for 11:00 am on Friday, November 1, at Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church, which is located at 4615 Asheville Highway. The burial will follow at Atchley's Seymour Memory Gardens, located at 122 Peacock Court in Seymour.Munson will be honored during the procession from the funeral home to the cemetery. KPD employees who cannot attend the service will show their support as the procession passes the Safety Building, and the Knoxville Fire Department will display the American flag from their ladder trucks behind the Safety Building on Hill Avenue.
