Ionia, MI : Two people injured in a one-vehicle accident on I-96 in Clarksville on Monday, July 25, 2016
Two people were hospitalized following a one-vehicle accident on I-96 at approximately 10 p.m. Monday.
Both the driver in the crash, a 51-year-old man, and a 49-year-old woman passenger were from Lowell. They were taken by Life Ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with serious injuries after the driver lost control of the car and it went off the road, according to the Ionia County Sheriff's Office.
Ionia County Sheriff's Office Lt. Rodger VanderMolen said the vehicle rolled three times before coming to rest upside down near the 58 mile marker. He said it appears alcohol and speed played a factor in the crash.
“Witnesses said the car was moving fast, but we can't say exactly how fast it was going,” VanderMolen said.
The Saranac Fire Department, Berlin-Orange Fire Department, Lake Odessa Police Department and Reed and
Hoppes Towing also responded to the accident.
