Teen passenger killed in Faulkner County collision

A 17-year-old passenger died Tuesday after the car he was riding in veered into the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming vehicle, police said.It happened about 4:20 p.m. as 18-year-old Mitchell Christie of Conway drove a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am west on Arkansas 286 in Faulkner County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.
Police say the Grand Am at one point moved into the eastbound lane, where it hit the left front of an eastbound 2010 Ford Edge.
A passenger in the Grand Am, 17-year-old William G. Mizell of Conway, suffered fatal injuries, the report said. Another passenger, Susan K. Mathis, 48, of Conway, and Christie were hospitalized with unspecified injuries.The driver of the Ford Edge, 27-year-old Brittany Lasley of Conway, and a 3-year-old passenger were also injured.
The report didn't specify the conditions of the four hurt in the wreck. It said they were taken to Conway Regional Hospital, Baptist Health Medical Center and UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, though it didn't say who went where.There was also no indication what caused the wreck. The report described conditions at the time as clear and dry.The death was the 401st fatality in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year.
