Washington County, OR : Two men arrested following a high-speed chase in a stolen car along U.S. 26 early Friday morning, October 17, 2014
Two men were arrested early Friday following a high-speed chase down U.S. 26 that stretched from Beaverton to Manning and ended in a crash, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
The incident began about 3 a.m. when a deputy spotted a 2013 Honda Civic with an "obscured license plate" at Northwest Cornell Road and Trail Avenue, said Sgt. Bob Ray, a sheriff's office spokesman. It appeared as if something was done to the license plate to make it difficult to read, he said.
Ray said the deputy caught the plate and learned the vehicle was stolen from Southeast Portland.
The deputy tried to stop the car, but the driver sped off, hopping onto U.S. 26. The deputy pursued westbound with speeds exceeding 100 mph, Ray said.
West of the highway's Vernonia-area junction with Oregon 47, the driver crashed into a ditch, Ray said. The driver reportedly tried to keep going, but was unsuccessful. Airbags had deployed throughout the vehicle.
Deputies, who found drugs in the car, arrested two men, ages 39 and 22, Ray said. Their names were not immediately available.
