A husband and wife from Marion died this afternoon when their motorcycle was hit by a car that crossed the median on Rt. 23 in Delaware County.
John Schade, 49, died at the crash. His wife, Lisa Schade, 51, was pronounced dead a short time later at OhioHealth Grady Memorial Hospital.
The crash occurred when Lyman Leathers, 85, of Delaware, was driving south on Rt. 23, just north of the city of Delaware. His car crossed the median and veered into the northbound lane near Troutman Road just before 2 p.m., hitting the Schades’ motorcycle, the State Highway Patrol said.
The couple were thrown from the motorcycle. Mr. Schade was not wearing a helmet; his wife was.
Leathers was taken for observation to Grady Memorial Hospital.
It’s unclear why his car crossed the median, and the crash remains under investigation.
