Encinitas, CA : One person dead and one injured in a three-vehicle chain reaction collision early Sunday morning on Interstate 5 on September 28th 2014
A three-vehicle chain reaction collision early Sunday on Interstate 5 in Encinitas left one person dead, another injured and a third sought by authorities after leaving the scene of the crash.
The incident was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 2:52 a.m. The CHP says a 22-year-old man from Chula Vista flipped his Acura ILX while northbound on I-5 north of Encinitas Boulevard at an unknown speed. The car ended up in the middle of the road.
Officers say a 2000 Toyota Tacoma driven by an unknown man then collided into the overturned Acura. After the collision, the driver of the Toyota left the scene. He is described as a white male, approximately 33 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He has a bald head, mustache and tattoos. He may live in Murrieta or Anaheim, according to the CHP.
A 2007 Mazda 3 driven by a 30-year-old woman from San Diego was also involved in the collision. She was transported to Scripps La Jolla with minor injuries. At this time, what vehicle she hit and what role she played in the collision is still under investigation.
The driver of the Acura was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
